Pro-life protestor causes commotion

DANVILLE — A pro-life protestor climbed a tree and started shouting just before the Vice Presidential Debate began Thursday night.

The man yelled anti-abortion slogans and encouraged those listening to vote for Gov. Mitt Romney.

A crowd of festival-goers gathered along with media and police. Most noting they were upset about the man's action.

"It is an inappropriate time and place. This is upsetting," said Centre College student Robert Morris, of Henderson, Ky. "I think it's disrespectful to the college. They spent a lot of money and time to put on a peaceful debate.

“Everybody has their opinion, but not where everyone is joined to have a debate. They had their own spot on the other side."

Other members of the crowd yelled back at the man.

One man remarked as the police, with the help of the Danville Fire Department, erected a ladder to attempt to reach the man, "shake the nuts out! It's an acorn tree, shake the nuts out."

As the debate started, the crowd turned their back on the protestor to listen in Festival Park.
