Lewis woman killed in Carter I-64 crash

3rd Carter traffic fatality in two days

OLIVE HILL — A Lewis County woman was killed Friday in a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 64 near Olive Hill.

Mary R. Logan, 53, of Vanceburg, was eastbound on I-64, about three miles east of the Olive Hill exit, about 2:30 p.m. when she lost control of her 2001 Pontiac Grand Am, Kentucky State Police at Ashland said. The road was wet and visibility was limited at the time due to heavy rain, the KSP said.

Logan's car struck a guardrail, then rebounded onto the roadway, where it was hit by an eastbound tractor-trailer driven by Terry Anders, 55, of Grassy Creek, N.C. Following the initial impact, Adners' rig went through the guardrail and over an embankment.

Logan, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene by Carter County Coroner George Sparks.  Anders and a passenger, Melynda Anders, 49, were wearing seat belts and were not injured.

Logan's death was the third traffic fatality in two days in Carter County. Two women were killed Thursday morning in a head-on collision on Ky. 2 near Olive Hill.
